Laser therapy is a process of introducing light energy (photons) deep into tissue to accelerate cellular reproduction, regeneration, and growth. Laser therapy increases the energy available to the cell so that it can take on nutrients and dispose of cellular waste faster. Damaged cells are repaired more quickly, which means that your body heals faster.
Class IV lasers supply therapeutic energy in the form of light to stimulate a process called Photobiomodulation, or PBM, where photons enter the tissue and interact with the cytochrome c complex within mitochondria. This interaction triggers a biological cascade of events that leads to an increase in cellular metabolism, an increase of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), a decrease in pain, vasodilation and improved microcirculation to injured tissue. It also releases endorphins and improves nerve function. Laser light also stimulates the development of fibroblasts in damaged tissue, which are the building blocks of collagen, an essential protein required for cellular regeneration and repair.
Laser therapy at Elite Laser Austin feels like soothing warmth. We get told often by our clients how relaxing sessions are. This relaxation is due in part to the chemical chain reaction happening at the cellular level; as vasodilation and circulation increases, the cells are prompted to release endorphins, which are the “feel good” chemicals our brains produce during pleasurable activities. Endorphins help to relieve pain, reduce stress, and improve your sense of wellbeing. This means you get to feel good while you heal faster.
Laser therapy speeds up healing by increasing blood and oxygen flow to the tissue and cells in the affected area of the body.

Elite Laser Austin uses the Phoenix Thera-lase system, which is a FDA-approved Class IV laser approved for the relief of pain and inflammation. There are virtually no documented adverse events or side effects with laser therapy, except a slight warming of the skin.
You can receive laser therapy every day. Since it is non-invasive, has no downtime, and there are virtually no side effects, you can do it as often as you’d like. We recommend patients with acute injuries or post-operative wounds (including bruising and swelling) come every day for the first 1-2 weeks to jump start the healing process.
The number of treatments you will need will be determined by the level of acuteness of your injury or wound, the stage of healing you are in, and the level of complexity of your injury or surgery. For most surgeries we recommend at least 10 treatments. For more complex surgeries with larger or multiple surgical sites, we recommend either 15 or 20 treatment sessions. If you are unsure about which option is right for you, schedule a consultation and we will make a plan for your healing together.
When you come to the Elite Laser Austin clinic, you will be greeted and asked to fill out your new patient paperwork if you have not already. You will be offered a wrap and, depending on the area(s) treated, will be asked to lay on the treatment table, sit or stand. The laser will be directed over the entire injury or surgical site and areas of physical trauma and swelling. It feels like soothing warmth and will not be hot. Treatments are 30 minutes long.
There is no downtime from laser therapy. Treatments are non-invasive and feel like soothing warmth. You can leave the treatment and continue on with any normal activities that you have been cleared for by your surgeon or practitioner. Since laser therapy will increase the level of activity in the mitochondrial respiration chain and the cells will increase their level of debris and waste clean out, we recommend you drink lots of water and eat protein after your treatment to give your cells extra support as they heal.
Absolutely! Laser therapy with the Phoenix Thera-lase system is non-invasive and there is no downtime. Laser therapy actually works well with other modalities such as PT, chiropractic care, dry needling, lymphatic massage, etc. If you will be engaging in therapies or modalities that will increase inflammation or pain through a manual manipulation, it might be best to follow that treatment with laser therapy to address the cellular healing aspect of the manual therapeutic work you have just received. Getting laser therapy after an uncomfortable PT session may calm down the inflammation and pain.
You can start receiving laser therapy treatments as early as the next day after your surgery or injury. Depending on how you feel and the complexity of your surgery, we will create a specific treatment plan that is custom designed for your needs.
The therapeutic laser at Elite Laser Austin is excellent for healing soft tissue injuries faster. Acute injuries like strains, sprains, trauma, tears, pulls, and more chronic inflammatory conditions like tendonitis and plantar fasciitis, low back, neck and shoulder pain, and many more. Laser therapy is excellent for open wounds and post-surgical trauma. Even broken spongy bones like feet and hands can be healed faster by using laser therapy!
The biggest difference between laser therapy and aesthetic lasers is depth, power, and purpose. Cosmetic lasers typically penetrate only skin deep to cause damage that the dermis then works to repair. The Phoenix Thera-Lase laser system penetrates deeply, stimulating the cells to heal and regenerate without causing stress or damage to the body.

As light energy is introduced into your damaged cells, a complex chemical reaction in the mitochondrial respiration chain is activated, stimulating a series of benefits including vasodilation and increased circulation, the production of ATP, collagen synthesis, improved cellular metabolism, the release of endorphins, improved nerve function, cellular proliferation, and more. This all adds up to faster healing for you.
